So, what exactly do we do?

  • Menu Creation

You’re finally getting back together with family and friends and you want something other than what you’ve been grilling outside for the last three years? Our allergy-friendly meal plan consulting can come up with a single menu for a special day or a month’s worth of weekly meals you can put in regular rotation. We work with the skills you have and we’ll help you grow them to become more confident and efficient in the kitchen—whether you’re just sharpening your first knife or are an award-winning chef who’s committed to creating more inclusive dining experiences.

  • Recipe Adaptation and Development

We all have that one recipe that makes us happy in our hearts. Maybe it came from a favorite family member and has been passed down or your neighbor brought it to a potluck and it just hits the spot, but it can’t be shared with your BFF because it contains one or more of their food allergens. Whether it’s a comfort food or a cupcake, you love it, and you want enjoy or share it safely but you’re not sure how to make it food allergy-friendly—or have tried and failed, it happens to the best of us! Not all ingredient swaps are equal, and some require significant reworking to make them safe and foolproof. Instead of sweating in your kitchen, let us get it sorted out for you.

  • Ingredient Sourcing and Procurement

Confused by all the content (or lack thereof) on food packaging labels? Searching for a safe version of a key ingredient that isn’t processed in a facility with potential for cross-contamination? Tracking down pantry staples and specialty foods can be a surprisingly time-consuming task, and we’re up for the challenge. Plus, we’ll coach you on how to ask all the right questions so you can do it with confidence, too. From sprinkles to sausages to peak seasonal items, give us your food allergen requirements and put us to work.

  • Food Styling

Don’t be fooled into the old school “if it’s allergy-friendly it must be icky” mindset (insert eye roll here). Yes, some ingredients are swapped out for alternative safe options, but recipes have come a long way since gluey gluten-free bakes. Not only do our updated dishes taste as good as or better than the original, they’re also a feast for the eyes—while ensuring that everyone at the table can enjoy them together. We’re here to get you inspired and showcase the brave new world of allergy-friendly dining.

  • Food Allergy Communications 101 Course

Coming in Fall 2023, this online self-paced course is a soup-to-nut-free crash course in how to communicate food allergy requirements. Whether you’re coordinating with family and friends, restaurant staff, food purveyors or organizations (including schools) it provides approaches, planning and checklists, along with age-appropriate conversation starters and scripts for kids and adults seeking inclusive and reasonable accommodations. It’s also a guide for when to back off and go to Plan B (a.k.a. Plan Healthy Boundaries) which we’ll help you establish based on your specific needs. You’ll walk away with real-world language, terminology and advocacy skills you’ll put to good use immediately.

  • Speaking Engagements

The incidence rate of food allergy is climbing every year, currently there are more than 32 million Americans managing one or more serious food allergies. That’s 1 in 13 kids under 18 or 2 students in every class room, and 1 in 10 adults, or 10 diners in restaurant with 100 seats (FARE.org). Creating awareness and understanding of how “real” food allergies are only improves the odds of being able to access inclusive menus, build compassionate communities and obtain urgent medical care when necessary. The more we share, the more folks care.
